Predictive Modelling Using Machine Learning in the Upstream Oil & Gas Sector

Predictive process models are essential engineering tools that enable better process design and more efficient operations. Predictive modeling is becoming increasingly prevalent and is most useful whenever we want to use data from the past to predict what will happen in the future. Read More.

Dynamic Process Simulation: When do we really need it?

Process simulation is the representation of industrial processes by means of the application of mathematics and first principles (i.e. conservation laws, thermodynamics, transport phenomena and reaction kinetics). Steady State models have been widely used in the industry, becoming a common or even more, a required practice. Steady state modeling is key for process conceptualization, design and evaluation and it is indeed a mature technology tool. However, the steady state is an idealistic definition used by engineers as a representation of “design” conditions which are not always accomplished due to change in raw materials, product specification, change in capacity due to marketing requirements, and the inherent dynamic behavior of processes.

MSAPR Registration - due January 1, 2019
Responsible persons of pre-existing compressor engines in Canada must register these engines by January 1, 2019, as part of the Multi-Sector Air Pollutants Regulations.
An Excel spreadsheet is available from Environment Canada to make it easier to do the registration in SWIM (the Single Window Information Manager).
For information on the MSAPR regulations, see MSAPR Overview.

November Highlights

  • Process Ecology attended the PTAC 3rd Annual Innovation Showcase on November 20 with 30 other exhibitors. The showcase highlighted technology for methane detection and mitigation, digital analytics, and other emerging trends!
  • Process Ecology was honoured to sponsor the PTAC Methane Emission Reduction Forum in Banff on November 27 & 28. Discussions explored various solutions and challenges of various methane sources, as well as the crucial role that new technologies will play in meeting methane reduction targets.
